On May 28th, 2004, two days before my 44th birthday, my renal function dropped below what is necessary to sustain life. Since then, I have been relying on a renal replacement therapy known as peritoneal dialysis. It is my good fortune to live in a day and age when such treatments are available, and I have sufficient insurance as to be able to afford to stay alive this way. It may be silly of me to think so, but I like to think that I have been granted a reprieve from death to fulfill some teleological aim. And so, here is my contribution to the world.
